Playing House

For my spring break I had the pleasure of watching someone else’s house and dogs while they went somewhere tropical and wonderful for an entire week. I had a good time pretending it was my house and their dogs were my own. I actually slept better there then I do in my own bed.

Everything was going great until one day I came home and saw that one of the dogs mistook my book (which I happen to be reading for class) as a tasty snack.

This was his attempt to devour it.

As you can imagine while reading this book in public drew a lot of attention to anyone that happen to walk by me. I can just imagine what was going on in their heads as to what happened to my book.

Damn dog did the exact same thing last year to my chemistry book.

I would rather break my neck

  A Gymnastics Coaches Blog.

Once while I was working a piece of very large equipment fell crushing my thumb and pinching my hand. This hurt so much the moment it happened I swore out loud. Out loud in front of all my very young students. I am not sure if they heard me. I hope they didn’t.

During the next few classes following the incident my hand was throbbing, I put a large wrap around it to keep from getting blood on everything and everyone. Not the mention the wound was scary looking and was frightening the children.

I felt useless. I couldn’t demonstrate how to do a cartwheel. I couldn’t help anyone with my right hand. Some student’s didn’t care. They asked for my help even though they knew my hand was hurt. I wanted to help and I would try, but the pain was too much.

Paige (one my students) was concerned about my hand, she asked me to unwrap it so she could see. She made me promise to go see a doctor, I told her I would. Paige had been working on a backhand spring for several weeks, she couldn’t do it without my help. The thought of my hand not working devastated her because she thought she was never going to do a backhand spring again. I set up an area with mats all around so she could do it by herself without getting hurt. Even if she fell there was no way she could get hurt, I made sure of it. She tried and she tried but she could not bring herself to do the trick all by herself. She needed my hand there for reassurance. I walked over to her, placed my hand on her back and told her that I was not going to let her fall, that I was going to help her and that she didn’t have to be scared anymore. Paige violently turned around to face me, “I would rather land on my head and break my neck then hurt your hand” she refused to let me help her. This made me smile. Then she did a backhand spring all by herself.

Even though my hand was throbbing it had been a good day.

Touch me, I feel great

I would like to introduce you to the most amazing lotion I’ve ever used in my life so far. It makes me feel so soft I just want people to touch me, I want to share the the softness. At first I didn’t like it because the lavender smell was way overwhelming. But, after a few moments the smell calms down and your skin is left feeling like angels and babies. Or Angelbabies. What could be better than that?

When you think things are bad

This poem by Dr. Seuss got me through some tough times.

When you think things are bad,
when you feel sour and blue,
when you start to get mad…
you should do what I do!

Just tell yourself, Duckie,
you’re really quite lucky!
Some people are much more…
oh, ever so much more…
oh, muchly much-much more
unlucky than you!
-Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?

My Sister Got a Puppy, I Want a Pet too

“I meant what I said and I said what I meant, an elephant is faithful 100%”
-Horton Hears a Who

I think I want a pet elephant. You think I’m joking but I’m not.

You will take pictures as I swing

I can’t wait for summer to get here. Not that I don’t enjoy the spring, because I do. I just want summer to get here, I can’t explain why.

In the summer time we will both be working a little late,
most of the day will be gone, the sun will be setting
You’ll pick me up and we’ll get smoothies
I’ll feel dirty because I worked all day but you think I’m pretty anyway
I’ll be wearing  a skirt and flip flops
My skin will be tan from the summer sun
The weather will be nice so I’ll ask you to go for a walk
You’ll bring your camera and I’ll pose for pictures
We’ll talk about work but mostly we’ll gossip
You will complain about the mosquito’s
I won’t because I never get bit by mosquito’s, ever.
We will come across a park and some swings
You will take pictures of the park
but I’ll sit on a swing
you will take pictures of me as I swing
I’ll make you nervous when I flip off
I love how much you care about my safety
We’ll talk about getting chocolate fondue
We’ll grin at each other
You’ll make fun of me for bringing a sweatshirt in the summer time
Our phones will ring but we’ll ignore them
When our walk comes to an end we’ll make tea
You’ll make it because it always taste better that way
I’ll massage your feet and we’ll talk
Our phones keep ringing, finally we’ll answer
We will finish our tea before going out
In the car we will drive with the windows down
You’ll make me laugh about ten thousand times…

Oh summer nights. I can’t wait.
